Senior nuclear advisory, priced for the decisions it supports.
These are my current standard rates for executive nuclear and capital-project advisory work through Project Pro LLC. They are for reference. Fixed-scope proposals are priced separately, and nothing here is an agreed engagement until we sign a written scope.
Current standard rates
Standard day rate
Executive nuclear and capital-project consulting: readiness reviews, execution planning, recovery and decision support.
Executive / strategic day rate
Board, owner's-representative, C-suite and SMR strategy work.
Short advisory calls
Prepaid in 3-day blocks: 24 hours at $600, or $14,400 per block.
All rates in U.S. dollars. Reasonable travel and expenses are billed separately, as agreed in advance. Monthly retainer options are available on request.
Fixed-scope Evaluations
Two defined assessments built on the Install Margin method. Each one reviews the evidence behind a readiness claim and ends with a written report and a decision briefing. Your quote falls within the range shown, set by the scope we agree in writing.
Knowledge Transfer and Retention Exposure Assessment
The question: what execution capability disappears if the people who currently hold it leave?
One site or department, about 8–10 days. Identifies where critical know-how sits with too few people, whether qualified successors and enough overlap exist, and what to transfer first. Includes structured interviews with experienced staff and a prioritized transfer plan.
Uprate Readiness Evaluation
The question: is the evidence strong enough to commit capital, outage time and licensing effort to a power uprate?
One plant, about 12–15 days. Covers need and existing assets, definition, technical readiness and delivery readiness: limiting conditions, equipment and supply chain, workforce, interfaces and outage sequence. Identifies the gaps to close before commitment.
Evaluations are advisory. They do not replace the licensee's engineering, licensing or safety obligations, and they do not constitute regulatory approval or authorization to operate, procure or construct. Work begins after a signed scope and any required confidentiality agreement. Travel and expenses are billed separately, as agreed in advance.
What these rates are based on
These rates reflect the level of decision I have been trusted to help make: owner-side governance, investment decisions and delivery on large nuclear and technology programs. They are set for senior advisory work, not general project-management staffing.
- Owner-side governance on a C$13 billion nuclear program. On the Bruce Power Major Component Replacement program (roughly C$13 billion of work, per the IESO announcement), the board appointed me a voting member of the committee responsible for governance and control and for the final investment decision (FID) recommendation, including its off-ramps. I served as the executive owner's representative for OMERS (Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System) and helped confirm that the long-term power purchase agreement, with its rate of return and off-ramps, was acceptable to the owners.
- Cost-overrun analysis that earned the appointment. That appointment followed my review of the Ernst & Young report on cost overruns in the Bruce Unit 1 restart, which I turned into a package approved by Bruce Power's senior leadership.
- International nuclear delivery. At Invensys, I directed operations and project controls for an $800+ million digital instrumentation and control program covering the nuclear island, balance of plant and full-scale simulators for eight nuclear plants in China. At Westinghouse, I directed $200 million in nuclear services in France, raising margin from 22% to 44%, and delivered a $50 million EPC chemical-cleaning equipment project for EDF on schedule in nine months.
- Enterprise technology at scale. Contracted through Microsoft Consulting Services, I led one of the largest multinational manufacturing, call-center and point-of-sale upgrades of its time, more than 10,000 seats across the U.S., Australia and Ireland, completed in 30 business days. The result became a national marketing campaign and was featured in Fortune. For American Express, I supported the build-out of the distributed environment for 12 web-based projects, on time and within budget, including the infrastructure that launched the Blue card.
- Operating-plant experience. Project manager and technical advisor for nuclear operations, chemistry and radiological engineering at Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station.
- U.S. Navy nuclear foundation. Graduate of the Navy Nuclear Power Program; qualified to operate and instruct at the S7G and S3G training reactors; served aboard USS Dallas (SSN-700) as a submarine-qualified Machinist's Mate First Class and Navy Diver.
- Recognized work. George Westinghouse Signature Award of Excellence, Toshiba Innovation Award, and industry awards for innovation and for contribution to profit and market share.
- A documented method. Author of Install Margin, a doctrine for installing execution certainty before commitment, and builder of the WIMS execution-readiness demonstrations.
How these rates compare
My standard day rate works out to about $560 an hour over an eight-hour day. That sits between published federal schedule rates and commercial partner rates at large advisory firms:
Big Four partners, commercial work
Typical range reported by Unanswered.io, about $5,600–$8,000 for an eight-hour day.
Senior consultants with Big Four or top strategy-firm backgrounds
Typical 2026 range reported by FreelancerMetrics ($400–$700 an hour).
Deloitte partner/director, federal schedule
Government-negotiated ceiling rates for March 2023 to March 2024 in Deloitte's GSA price list. These are discounted federal rates, not commercial pricing.
Published ranges are general market indicators, not quotes for nuclear owner-side work, and they vary by firm, scope and region.
